Gut pH

Listened to an informative webinar last week exploring the microbial terrrain of the gut and its significance on gut health.  We have always known that candida and dysbiosis occur when the gut lumen health is out of balance.  The key to balancing gut lumen health is strongly related to the ph or acid/alkalinity of the tissues.  The stomach has  a low ph (high acid) levels to help chemical digestion, where as the small and large intestine are more alkaline.

Problems can occur in the small intestine, where most of the assimilation of nutrients occur, when the enviroment becomes to acidic.  A diet high in saturated and trans fats, sugar, alcholol, refined carbohydrates and even "lacto" probiotics all add to the acid load.  This acid load can lead to food intolerances not had before, overgrowth of some microbes (ie candida) can occur.  This acid enviroment is also associated with autism spectrum disorders.

To correct the gut health we generally recomend  weed, seed and feed protocol and  Alkaline mineral supplements.  Results can take from a few weeks to several months.  In clinic I test dysbiosis and acidity levels for anyone with gut problems.
