Why Coconut Oil?

Posted on 30 October, 2014 at 22:25

Coconut oil has been in the media lately and some of us are wondering if we should consume it.  Firsty you need to know each and every cell is comprimised of a fatty membrane and it needs nutrients to support it.  Our brain and nerve cells are also encased in a fatty membrane.  Fat provides a source of stored energy and insulation for the body, like the kidneys protected in the abdominal cavity.

70% of cholestrol is made in the body by the liver, so if you are having problems with raised cholestrol levels do check your liver function and support liver funciton with herbs such as Milk thistle or Globe Artichoke found in my Herbal LIver Drops formula.  Cholestrol acts in the body as a plug to damaged blood vessels,  and with a good supply of HDL proteins and fibre the body will reabsorb the plug in the blood vessels.

Coconut oil should be enjoyed in moderation, choose an appropiate portion size of 1-2 Tablespoons per day.  Many other naturopaths recomend it for all manner of health conditions, auto immune, dry skin conditions, excema, dermatitis, mental health conditions and to support body where there is inflammation.

Heart disease is often associated with raised cholestrol levels, but there are many other lifestyle factors that need to be taken into account, gender, age, hereditary factors, and lifestyle factors to consider.  All of us need an intake of good fats daily to support our health,  choose raw, unheated oils , nuts and seeds to enjoy.  Oily fish such as salmon and advocao also supply us with good fats.

I hope you enjoy the Yummy Chocolate bites, recipe is on facebook/gethealthywithtina

I just made the made the Homemade Chocolate from your email newsletter and it is beautiful! My daughter doesn't like raisins so I added some activated buckwheat and some shredded coconut and it is just like coconut rough - only better for us! Thanks for the info on coconut oil Tina, and the recipe too :-)
