Seeds and coconut oil

Posted on 22 April, 2015 at 19:10

Chia Seeds and Coconut Oil are all the buzz words at the moment and the good news is that they are a source of omega 3 and 6  which are used by the skin cells.  Chia seeds can be added to cereals, porridge, muffins, cakes, smoothies and are also a good source of protein.  Try soaking a tablespoon over night in water and adding it to your porridge the next morning.  Really great in smoothie's they swell up, absorb the water and can be quiet filling.

I have had a great play with coconut and coconut oil in the kitchen, I have made many coconut bliss balls, use it in the frypan, added it to porridge, what can you do with it.  I have also suggested it to clients with dry excema to rub it directly onto the skin after a bath or shower, how good is that, think of the fragrance.

check out these tasty, easy home made crackers

200gm sunflower seeds

60gm flax seeds

100gm seaseme seeds

3T psyllium husks

500mls water

1/2 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 160C.  In a mixing bowl combine all ingredients, let stand for 10 minutes til pliable.  Line baking tray with baking paper, spread miixture out as thin as possible , with no holes.  Bake for 60-75 minutes until seriously crispy.  Store in an airtight container.  Maybe you could swap the flax seeds for chia seeds if you wish.  What topping will  you top your crackers with??
